Our Friends group is being very ably led by Michele Crane, one of our friendly librarians. Michele is also our children's librarian. She runs the story hour and summer reading programs. So if you have a little 'un running around, chances are you've already met Michele!

If you're interested in generating ideas for the library, or if you're chock full of ideas for what we SHOULD be doing, come on by and put your John Hancock on our Friends sign-up sheet. Or email Michele at michele@blandfordlibrary.org.

We'll be posting the next meeting for the Friends Group real soon, so keep your eyes peeled on this site for breaking news!

The yellow bricks come from a special clay called kaolin clay, which was mined by the Blandford Brick and Tile Company, just opposite what is now Kaolin Road on Main Street. Kaolin clay is full of aluminum silicate, also called kaolinite, which as you can see from this picture of a kaolinite rock is a buff-yellow color. Kaolinite can also be white or grey, but the stuff here in Blandford is yellow.

The clay was taken down to Russell, where it was formed and baked into bricks. These bricks were used all over the area for a while. The whole library is made of these special Blandford bricks.

In fact, there is another library nearby that was also constructed of these same yellow bricks of Blandford clay. Can you guess where? (Hint: it's due south of here!)
